How to build a Tesla coil at home. Successfully this time πŸ˜‚

I made the first of two RF filters chokes.
I made it from PVC pipe and 650 turns of 0.40mm or 26AWG Red Enamel coated Copper Magnet Wire.

Thick enough to comfortably carry the primary transformer current of 1 to 2Amps without heating up.

​Thin enough to fit plenty of turns on a 28cm winding length for strong RF choking inductance of 1.4 to 1.5mH.

If I made the chokes any larger (with more turns of wire):
It would have introduced unnecessary parasitic inter-winding capacitance.

High-frequency RF can actually “jump” across a choke with too many turns via capacitance, completely defeating its purpose.
It would add unnecessary DC resistance to the charging circuit.
The 28 cm windings on the 41mm pipe hit the ideal balanceβ€”they provide excellent high-frequency blocking around 1.5mH while easily handling the 50Hz supply current. So we can move forward with confidence!
