How to Build a Tesla Coil – Single Mosfet Solid State Tesla Coil.
More than 130 years after its invention, people around the world still gather in garages or laboratories to build a Tesla coil. What was once a dangerous experiment restricted to scientists and engineers has today become a hobby for enthusiasts of electricity and electronic circuits. Many build coils for science fairs, YouTube channels, or physics demonstrations.
Seeing fluorescent bulbs light up on their own in someone’s hands—meters away from the coil—still evokes the same sense of wonder and magic it did in Tesla’s time.
❓ Fun fact: When you connect batteries in series (connecting the positive terminal of one to the negative terminal of another), their voltages add up, resulting in a higher total voltage. In the secondary coil of a Tesla coil, the physical principle is the same, but it operates magnetically. Each turn of wire acts like a micro-battery, generating its own fraction of voltage through induction.
Since all the turns are connected in series, these voltage fractions add up from one turn to the next. It is like stacking thousands of micro-batteries on top of one another to create a high-voltage tower.
The air surrounding the top simply cannot withstand this concentrated electrical pressure and breaks down, creating plasma discharges (streamers).
